| We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of an Emerson Elementary School student. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to the boy’s family as well as the Emerson community. It’s difficult to cope with death, and even harder to understand when the loss involves such a young person. We know that this young man was a kind, friendly and bright young child with so much to live for. Counselors will be available to student and staff at Emerson who may want to talk about this tragedy. It is expected that news such as this will leave parents and others nervous and worried. We want to assure you we are working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and the New Mexico Health and Education departments to stay on top of any and all developments having to do with H1N1 in our state. We are grateful to all the support and guidance the state has provided us. We have months of flu season still ahead. I ask that you stay calm but vigilant. If your child is ill – please keep him or her home. Follow all recommendations the Department of Health has provided that outline when a visit to the doctor may be necessary. Maintain the best possible hygiene and stress the importance of hand washing to your kids. |
